Neuropathy treatment for Oxford, Iowa
Neuropathy care about 25 minutes from Oxford
Oxford sits just off I-80, west of the North Liberty and Iowa City area. That puts it a bit further from the clinic than most of the towns we serve, so we want to be upfront about the drive and clear about what you get for it: a board certified assessment rather than a guess.
- Dr. Mohamed Karim is board certified in Chronic Intractable Pain and Neuropathy, and in Functional Neurology.
- Baseline testing at the first visit and again later, so progress is a number rather than a feeling.
- Free consultation, no referral needed, free parking directly outside.
- Evening appointments until 7pm on Monday and Wednesday, useful when the drive is longer.

Worth knowing before you drive
Is the drive from Oxford worth it?
Honest answer: it depends on what you have already tried. Oxford does not have a clinic offering this kind of neuropathy assessment, and the nearest real options are in Iowa City or North Liberty. If you have already been properly assessed elsewhere, measured, and given a plan with a retest built in, you probably do not need to make the trip. If you have been told there is not much to be done, twenty five minutes buys you a second opinion from someone who specializes in exactly this.
Dr. Mohamed Karim is board certified in Chronic Intractable Pain and Neuropathy through the American College of Physical Medicine, and in Functional Neurology through the American Functional Neurology Institute. Those are qualifications in the specific problem you would be driving in for, not a general credential with neuropathy listed underneath it.
The free consultation exists so the decision about whether to keep coming is an informed one rather than a leap of faith. If we do not think we can help, we will say so before you commit to anything.
What the assessment involves
The basics
What neuropathy looks like, and what causes it
Burning or electric pain in the feet, worse in the evening. Numbness in the soles or fingertips. A sensation of walking on gravel or in socks that are not there. Feet that feel cold to you but not to the touch. Balance that has quietly become less reliable in the dark or on uneven ground. Weakness gripping a jar or turning a key.
Causes
Diabetes and prediabetes account for most cases. Others include chemotherapy, B12 deficiency, thyroid disease, kidney disease, alcohol, autoimmune conditions and nerve compression. Where no cause is found it is called idiopathic neuropathy, and it is still worth assessing.
The assessment
Sensation across feet and hands, vibration and position sense, reflexes and strength, balance and gait, and circulation to the extremities, alongside your history and any bloodwork you already have. Repeated later against that baseline.

Oxford to North Liberty
From Oxford the most direct route runs east on Forevergreen Road into the North Liberty and Iowa City area, finishing at 1395 Jordan St Unit C. It is about 25 minutes in normal conditions, a little longer if you catch traffic near the I-80 interchange. Parking is free and directly outside, with a level entrance from the lot.
If the drive makes a single round trip feel like a lot, book the Monday or Wednesday evening slot, which runs until 7pm. Some Oxford patients also combine a neuropathy appointment with another service, such as IV therapy or an infrared sauna session, to make the trip count for more. Mention it when you call and we will try to schedule both on the same visit.
Questions
Oxford patient questions
Is twenty five minutes really worth it for a consultation?
The consultation itself is free, so the only real cost is the drive. If it turns out we are not the right fit, you have lost an afternoon, not money. If it turns out we can help, you have found something worth the trip.
Do I need a referral?
No. Call (319) 380-4380 or use the contact page and we will find you a time.
Can I combine this with another appointment to make the trip worth it?
Often, yes. Patients travelling further sometimes pair a neuropathy visit with IV therapy or an infrared sauna session. Ask when you book and we will try to line them up.
How many visits will this take?
It runs as a course rather than a single appointment, with a retest built in. We agree the schedule with you at the consultation, so the commitment is clear before you start.
What else does the clinic offer?
All seven services, including hormone therapy, IV therapy, medical weight loss, Gut Health, ozone therapy and infrared sauna.
